MAINE STATE MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES

Augusta, Maine

Project Summary

The Maine State Museum, built in 1970 to house geological and biological specimens showcasing the state’s unique attributes, had suffered from deferred maintenance and aging of its major components.

BPA performed a comprehensive condition assessment of building envelope systems concurrently with an engineering analysis of the HVAC systems operation, to identify opportunities for improvements in operating efficiency. We developed a renovation scope and provided detailed cost estimates for the completion of work including replacement of roofing and glazing systems, enhancement of the thermal barrier, and reduction of air leakage through the building envelope. BPA also engineered and installed structural anchors to stabilize granite cladding on part of the façade, to eliminate a safety hazard identified during the assessment.
